Статья является результатом изучения истории рыбной промышленности Волго-Каспийского бассейна в советский период (1918-1991), т. е. с момента национализации отрасли и до распада Советского Союза. В результате исследования автор приходит к выводу о том, что упадок рыбной промышленности в регионе в конце XX и начале XXI в. наступил в результате сознательных управленческих решений, приведших к нарушению экологического баланса и положивших рыбные богатства края на алтарь индустриализации.
The article presents the result of studying the history of fi shing industry of the Volga-Caspian basin in the Soviet period (from 1918 to 1991), that is from the moment of nationalization of industry and up to the Soviet Union disintegration. Having carried out the research the author makes the conclusion that the decline of fi shing industry in the region in late 20th - early 21st centuries came as a result of conscious management decisions which resulted in disruption of the ecological balance and put the fish wealthion of the region on the altar of industrialization.
