Abstract
The article is dedicated to the history of offi cers of Stavropol Kalmyk Troop. The study outlines the place of Stavropol offi cers in military and religious policies of the authorities from the Seven years War to the end of the Patriotic War of 1812 and Russian Foreign Campaign of 1813-1814. The results of the research expand scientifi c understanding of political and diplomatic actions of authorities on the south-eastern territories of the Russian Empire in this period.

The article considers the historiographic aspect of participation of Stavropol Kalmyk Regiment in the wars with Napoleonic France; there is the information about the archive materials used by historians. By example of number of publications the author notes that general conclusion of prerevolutionary historians about the heroism of the Kalmyk warriors and their great merits in the victories won by the Russian Army remains fi rm even at present.

Abstract
The article considers the place and part of Caucasus in Russian history in the period of the Patriotic War of 1812. The author analyzes the situation in the region on the eve of the war and the activities taken by the government in making preparation for it. The response of society to the beginning of the war is shown, the contribution of the region to the victory is determined, the participation in military operations of Cossack and national sub-units formed in the Caucasus is described. The special attention is paid to the prisoners of war and their deportation in 1814-1815.

The subtext as a linguistic phenomenon appearing as a result of some syntactic constructions usage is described in the article. Depending on the used linguistic means and on appearing semantics the subtext is divided into two types: emotional and conventional. The fi rst one serves for making the narrations emotional background, the latter specifi es circumstances of the plot. The examples from Russian prose of XIX-XXIth centuries are used like illustrations.
