Abstract
In the article the Russia’s policy towards the Kalmyks in Time of Troubles at the beginning of the 17 century is considered. Despite difficult internal and external situation, Russia has expressed interest in the Kalmyks, seeing them as the reliable allies, who might reinforce socium of the developing Russian state. Mutual interests of both parties led to the voluntary entering of the Kalmyks in the Russian state where they actively were involved in the implementation of its geostrategic tasks.

Abstract
The article represents an attempt to prove that long-term preservation of mandatory relations among the Kalmyk nomads has predetermined mainly negative consequences in evolution of social processes on their nomadic territories. In the second half of the 19th century their social estates and certain social layers not only were degraded but also quickly lost the full ability to adapt to the Russian changes occurring under the influence of bourgeois reforms.

The article deals with the preliminary results of archaeological research of Taskeshu caravanserai built in the 14th century to service transcontinental caravan routes connecting the East and West Eurasia in the Middle Ages. Caravanserais provided a relatively comfortable journey merchants and brought a stable income as taxes to the treasury of the Golden Horde khans.

Abstract
The article is devoted to one of the contentious issues of the Kalmyk linguistics — the problem of composite words, which are known to be quite common in Turkic and Mongolian languages. However, their status is still undefined, and the way to the formation of new units in the Kalmyk language has not been studied in depth from a scientific point of view. According to the traditions of the Kalmyk spelling, compound words are written separately in the main (in space), making it difficult to automatically search the National corpus of the Kalmyk language, which is created in order to preserve the language as a means of cognition and communication. Therefore, obtaining of reliable statistics on the corpora material is almost impossible, because the corpus manager does not take into account the specificity of their writing.

Abstract
The article shows that the semantic features of different types of commands in Kalmyk and Russian language are due to the context and determined by the nature of relations between the speaker and his interlocutor. The analysis revealed similar and distinctive features in categorical meanings of the imperative mood in Kalmyk and Russian.

The basic semantic zones of directive utterances (an order, a request, an advice, a permission, etc.) are described. The article is devoted to ethnopoetics of Elena Gan’s novel «Utballa», and namely to its Kalmyk component. The author analyzes the poetics of heading and names, chronotope, ethnographic details of Kalmyk life. Characterological and plot forming role of legends is defined. The characteristic peculiarities of the «alien» world (customs, traditions, rites and religion) are described as one of the essential typological feature of Russian romantic novel of the beginning of the 19th century.

The article contains the results of analytical work on health status of the population living in the conditions of desertification of the territories of the Caspian sea region. A pattern of disease of the population of Kalmykia is shown in comparison with the average values in Russia as a whole and «a biosocial fee» of the population for adaptation to extreme conditions.
